The only time an enemy has ever occupied American soil was in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. The 11th Airforce was tasked with defending with Japanese as well as surviving the miserable conditions of the Aleutians and Bering Sea. Jack Chennault, son of the famed Claire Chennault of the AVG, commanded the 11th Fighter Squadron flying the P-40 Warhawk. All of the P-40's in Chennault's squadron carried the snarling face of a Bengal Tiger on the cowling, probably a spin off of his father's Flying Tigers.
