When Japan bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the United States was caught with her pants down. With the war in Europe, the US government was sending all its resources to that theatre, so in the early years of the war with Japan, our servicemen in the South Pacific were short on supplies, planes and men. Most men were issued WWI helmets, gas masks, rations and many times guns. One such man was First Lieutenant Norbert C. Ruff who graduated from Flight School on December 6, 1941. Within a month, he was in Australia and then New Guinea fighting the Japanese. This book describes the early days of the war with Japan, what these men went through and honors Norb's comrades who did not make it back. It also covers Norb's life, including his time flying the first jet the Bell P-59 and F-80.
