Drive spline inserts are fitted around the inside of the wheel, where they engage the notches in the rotating brake discs of a multiple disc brake. Braking torque passes from the discs into the wheel through these inserts, so worn or battered inserts cause brake chatter and uneven disc wear. Each insert is held by a 218341-5 lock pin. The 530660M wheel uses 16 inserts and 16 pins.
