The "N" in 22NA5-82 denotes a nylon insert, added by ESNA to replace the earlier fiber-insert 22A5-82, which is prone to cracking with age. AirCorps recommends nylon insert fasteners wherever possible. The 22NA5-82 is a corner anchor nut, sometimes called a diagonal or angle plate nut. The two rivet holes sit on a diagonal rather than in line, which lets the nut mount in a corner, along a flange radius, next to a stiffener, or anywhere an in-line two lug plate nut will not physically fit.
