The nylon locking insert replaced ESNA's earlier fiber insert, which is prone to cracking with age. AirCorps recommends nylon insert fasteners wherever possible. The 68NE-054 is a light-pattern self-locking hex nut with a red nylon locking insert, made from aluminum alloy. It is the ESNA production equivalent of AN365D524A and is the nut you want where weight matters and the joint stays below 250 F.
