The nylon locking insert replaced ESNA's earlier fiber insert, which is prone to cracking with age. AirCorps recommends nylon insert fasteners wherever possible. The 99NE-048 is a light-pattern self-locking hex nut with a red nylon locking insert, made from brass. It is the ESNA production equivalent of AN365B428A and is the nut you want where weight matters and the joint stays below 250 F.
